Good tip. Just got my hiking pole from Jalan Pasar today. Bought 2 at RM25.00 per unit. Took a while to find it on Jalan Pasar and found it in side the "E Mart" building. It is a stall selling torchlights, etc (proprietor is a Chinese gentleman) directly opposite another shoplot called Lincoln Communication. GPS coordinates: 3.135121464729309,101.71462833881378
Details:
Only in black color. Telescopic.

Yes, for beginners, having a pole, whether the good & branded, expensive one or the RM3.00 one, will aid you in your climb.

Just to share with everyone, for those who reside in Kuala Lumpur, there is a shop along Jalan Pasar (where lotsa electronic shops can be found) selling a made-in-China no brand hiking pole for RM15.00 and another type with mini-torchlight attached to the handle for RM30.00. 2 of my climbing mates bought them there.
